Erin Hanson is a life-long painter, beginning her study of oil painting at 12 years old. As a teenager, she worked in a mural studio, painting for restaurants and casinos. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Erin Hanson took pause from art to study Bioengineering. She has since spent 5 years rock climbing and painting the scenery of Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California.
Artist Erin Hanson considers her oil paintings a blend of traditional California impressionism and abstract cubism, with a dash of “plen-air style.” The rocks themselves seem to dictate her painting style, sometimes bold and dark, other times softened by a fragile light.
Erin Hanson transforms desert landscape into an abstract mosaic of color and texture. The impasto application of paint lends a sculptural effect to her art. These oil paintings are created wet-on-wet, without layering, allowing you to experience every brush stroke. A colorful underpainting gives a unique, glowing effect to her paintings.
