Biography

Richard Brachman creates sculpture and paintings in a primarily abstract style. He often takes inspiration for his designs from issues that affect everyone such as the environment, the economy, personal relationships and family, and work. Brachman has been a practicing artist for 40 years and has shown his work regionally, nationally and internationally.

Brachman uses a variety of materials to convey his three dimensional ideas including wood, steel, fiberglass and resin, and standard construction materials. His work has been exhibited throughout the New York Metropolitan area and nationally, including at Adelphi University, Garden City, NY; Unison Arts Center, New Paltz, NY; Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Cold Spring, NY; Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, Brooklyn, NY; Governors Island, NY; Stamford, CT; Philadelphia, PA; Stockbridge, MA; Houston, TX, and Hawaii.

Brachmanís work is in the collection of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, The American Bible Society, NYC, and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. The New York Times and Brooklyn Papers have written about his work a number of times, and he has received two Puffin Foundation grants. He has been co-curator of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition for ten years and is a member of the International Sculpture Center, the Sculptors Guild of New York, and the Art Students League of New York.

Brachman received an architecture degree from the University of Wisconsin and studied drawing, painting and sculpture at the Art Students League of New York. He splits his time working in studios in Brooklyn, NY and rural northeastern Pennsylvania
