Divinities in Blue

With the success of my original marbleized designs, I decided to work larger, focusing on a series of works that retained the sense of depth and timeless of the marble slabs and incorporated the use of monochromatic color theory. Using 24 x 24 boards of MDF compressed wood particle, primed white and base-coated black, oil paint mixed with glazing medium and thinner was poured out from glass jars onto the surface and manipulated with a soft brush to give the painting rhythm, feeling and emotion while showing the gesture and movement of the artists hand as white organic forms (divinities) take shape and move throughout the composition. Mixing and manipulating the paint with brushes and sponges, and coercing movement by dragging blunt objects across the painted surface, the transparent and opaque nature of the medium allows the black base coat to visually affect the colors. Similar to the marble slabs, in some areas the surface seems to drop back into the farthest recesses of space, while in the foreground white divinities mix and mingle with one another in congested areas of confusion, color and movement, frozen in a moment of timelessness within the endless cosmos.
