Tony Almeida was born and raised in the Alfama District of Lisbon, Portugal. Alfama is the
heart and soul of the City of Lisbon and he tries to reflect this heart and soul through his
paintings of Mediterranean life and florals.
Tony first became interested in art as a young boy, and for a brief time, was taught the
technique of wood carving by his cousin Zeca, who was a Master wood sculptor for many of the
catherdrals in Lisbon, Portugal. Tony remembers his cousin's sculpted flowers coming alive in
his hands and credits his talent for floral paintings to these early memories.
Tony is basically self-taught and has taken some courses at Belas Artes, Lisboa, Portugal. He works with both oil and acrylic. He has exhibited his work around the State of Florida, to include the Backus Museum (Ft. Pierce, Fl); The Peabody Auditorium (Daytona Beach, Fl); Casselberry City Hall; and the Avalon Gallery (Orlando, Fl). He has also exhibited in Florence, Italy.
His painting: "Night Rehearsal" is on permanent display at the Peabody Auditorium, Daytona Beach, Fl, and he was just recently on the cover of The Ormond Beach Magazine and Deland Magazine (January/February 2012, 10th Anniversary addition). He is presently a member of the Florida Artist Registry.
