I am a fiber artist who loves to weave and quilt. I make both traditional bed quilts as well as wall art quilts. With both weaving and quilting, I enjoy the process of playing with color and texture.
The awe and beauty of nature is the source of endless inspiration for my art quilts. Through the characteristics of the fabric, the design, and the piecing process, I try to capture the essence of nature's spirit rather than mimic every detail. As a result, each quilt allows the viewer to make their own connection with the subject.
The fabrics I enjoy using the most are cotton batiks and hand-dyed fabrics. The richness of color and variation of design in these fabrics reflects those same characteristics in nature's beauty and brings texture and depth to the designs.
All of my art quilts are machine-pieced to provide structural integrity to the finished piece. I collaborate with other machine quilters to choose the thread and pattern of the final quilting stitches, which joins my pieced design with the inner layer of cotton batting and the outer back layer of fabric. This process always transforms the pieced design into a unified whole and adds a subtle secondary layer of pattern and texture to the quilt.
By using nature's colors and themes, these art quilts can transform moods and emotions into contentment and calm found through nature's soothing touch, where time is measured by the quiet passing of seasons rather than the frantic ticking of seconds.
