About Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art
Dan is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin but spent his primary and secondary educational years in Ellicott City, Maryland and Greenville, South Carolina. He received a B.A. in English from Clemson University in 1982 and after graduate studies in theatre at Illinois State University moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he began a fifteen year theatrical career primarily as a production and stage manager. After meeting his partner and graphic designer Shawn, Walczyk & Young Studios (now Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art) was founded in a four room apartment in downtown Lancaster, PA in 2001. The two have since taken up residency in a historic home/studio “complex” built in 1830 and listed on the National Historic Register. Dan specializes in nature, architectural, commercial and event photography, printing and color management for the Studio. He enjoys camping, hiking and biking and his love of kayaking often offers a unique photographic perspective for his nature and wildlife photography.
Born an "elemental," virtually all of my work is based in nature, the natural world. Whether "straight" photography or digitally manipulated or digitally painted, all of my images begin in camera.
It is always my hope and intention to celebrate the beauty and miracle of nature as given to us by the great Creator. Through this celebration of nature and the natural world I hope that the viewer will take from the images a message of preservation and conservation and perhaps a more spiritual perspective; a connection to the magic and mystery and miracles that surround us each and every day in each and every moment.
