“I don’t like a lot of art. I only like two pieces I have in my home. My GDM and my HIRSCHFELD”…Chita Rivera

GDM was removed from his home at age 15 and was left to live in runaway shelters and group homes. This was in the Albany area during the early 1980s. In the mid-1980s he moved to New York City and started his career in dance, musical theatre and choreography.

Currently an Associate Professor of Dance at Marymount Manhattan College (18yrs), Montclair State University (8yrs) and Rider/ARB’s Princeton Ballet School (18yrs). He is a member of Actor’s Equity and an associate member of The Society of Directors and Choreographers he was also the Artistic Director of The Mantis Project Dance Company (10yrs).

As a performer, Mr. Doig-Marx appeared in Equity National Tours and Regional Theater Productions of West Side Story, Pippin, A Chorus Line, Dames at Sea, Cabaret, La Cage aux Folles, Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar and many others.

In December of 2011, Doig-Marx married and moved to Harlem where he wanted to create a painting for his new home. Never having trained as fine artist he picked up a brush to start his first painting and hasn’t looked back.

He picked up his Iphone to take photos and had a solo showing of his photographs. one hangs. Now he has been painting, photographing and writing. In 2015 he was invited to have his first New York Solo gallery showing at The Lanyon 36 Gallery.

Now with over hundreds of paintings and photographs, GDM’s work is in high demand.

In New York City, he is the resident Artist of The Pecora Building (4 years), POSH NYC (7 years) and The West End Lounge (3 years). His work hangs at Peridance and in the halls of The Martha Graham Dance Company. He was commissioned for a piece for a museum in Orlando. His latest project is a Children’s Book that he wrote and is illustrating (soon to be published).

Celebrity Collectors of GDM’s works include: Chita Rivera, Donna McKechnie, Vanessa Williams, Patina Miller, Terrence Mann and Charlotte d’Amboise.
