About Janet Strayer Art
I'm a painter with my own perspectives, a traveler, thinker, and lover of life. I was born in Europe, grew up in New York City, moved to Canada's west coast, where I live now on an island in the Salish Sea. I like to mix classical and jazz (seasoned craft and inventive play) approaches to painting. I intend my paintings to convey the interrelatedness of the inner and outer worlds we inhabit, their richness, variety, and wonder across different styles and media.
My paintings live where imagination gets real. Animism infuses my work, both representational and abstract. They celebrate life in all its forms, colours, textures, and varieties of expression. My work has won some awards, had several solo gallery shows, appeared in some media and books, and is found in homes and interesting places.
