Sharon Matisoff is a Frankfort, Kentucky award-winning artist who creates figurative and animal paintings in oil and pastel. Known best for her traditional portraiture, she has recently branched out into equine art where she uses her Impressionist/Realist style to create kinetic works of horses and riders in expressive works of art.
Ms. Matisoff is primarily self-taught but has supplemented her private study with classes at various colleges. In particular, she credits her classes with the late Richard Bunkall at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California for changing her from an enthusiastic amateur to a skilled painter. She has attended workshops with Chinese Master Artist, Shuqiao Zhou, who introduced her to the Russian Realist style that continues to influence her today. She also has taken workshops with John Michael Carter in Louisville, Thomas Coates in Lexington, Kentucky, and Scott Burdick and Daniel Gerhartz at the Weekend with the Masters in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Ms. Matisoff has won numerous awards for her work in local, regional, and national competitions. Her paintings can be seen in private collections across the United States.
