My Artist Statement

I am documenting society today through painting. By studying the interaction or disconnect between people, I am responding to the compositions of figures, and telling a story. I am intrigued by the space between people, and the expressions on their faces. We live in a time when individuals are alone when together, and I strive to record that self-imposed distance. This carries through to my depictions of nature as well. A solitary tree, a piece of driftwood, a bleached stick on a dry riverbed, all reflect the starkness of the natural world today. We may be viewing that tree for the last time. Because of that urgency, I want to record the colors, shadows, and movement of branches to dramatic effect. I am challenging the viewer to look closer, into the shadows, into the faces, and see themselves and the disappearing world around us.

My Location

I am located in San Anselmo, CA.
