Stephanie Berry is largely self-taught in oil painting but has taken workshops and classes with a number of painters: Janet Manyan, Debra Yoo, Colin Page, Carol Marine and Don Hatfield. She has also attended a life drawing group at Bates College since 2003.
Stephanie paints almost daily and posts regularly to her website: http://stephanieberryart.blogspot.com . She continues to explore different styles of painting but favors a looser style and colorful palette. Oils remain her favorite and nearly exclusive medium. Her works include landscape, still life, portrait and figurative work. The things closest to home provide the most inspiration: the gardens, changing seasons, family and favorite places.
Since 2005 Stephanie has been in several juried shows at Turner Center of the Arts; Atrium Art Gallery/USM in Lewiston; Gallery 5, Lewiston; Lyceum Gallery, Lewiston; Boothbay Foundation for the Arts; and River Arts in Damariscotta. Stephanie had a solo show “A Look Back” at Kimball St. Studios in Lewiston in 2014. The main body of works in that show featured a multi-generational family that ran a local dairy farm. She also participates Art Walk LA . Her works are in private and corporate collections.
Every painting is personal in some way to the artist alone, but I hope viewers of my work will experience some sort of remembrance, thought or connection that’s uniquely theirs. I love the fluid process of creating with oils, always seeking a harmony of color, texture, and space. There is a wonderful tactile joy in pushing paint around- much like the finger paints we all loved as children. I love that if something doesn’t work I can revisit it and try again. The challenge never goes away.
