Susan's loose and charming style of painting exudes warmth, joy, and nostalgia, capturing subjects near her home in middle Tennessee, in simple strokes of color. Although she has experimented with several mediums over the years, she now concentrates in oils and acrylics. And Alla Prima (painting in one session) is her style preference.
Susan is a longtime member of the Chestnut Group Plein Air Painters and is a very active art instructor, teaching both children and adults in a variety of classes.
Susan resides in a century-old Craftsman cottage in Columbia, Tennessee, where she can be found painting, reading, gardening, or sipping sweet tea on the front porch with numerous well-loved, but very misbehaved, rescued fur-babies.
Born into a family of artists and being a child of the Divine Creator, it is impossible to deny my creative spirit. We are all artists. It's our nature. We just choose different mediums. Mine is paint. Oil and Acrylic paint mostly. And I will forever be a student, inspired by the South and its unending natural beauty, historic architecture and limitless talent of other artists that call this section of God’s Garden “home.”
I am an old soul and strive to live a simple life from a simpler time. Vintage linens, heirloom flowers, clothes lines, historic architecture, puppies… these are some of the simple joys in life and the recurring subjects of my paintings.
My only wish is for my paintings to bring joy to all who view them. Sow the seeds of creativity, and reap a harvest of joy!!
