Joy Walker grew up in the Pacific Northwest mid hills of colorful daffodils She attributes this, plus her climbing experiences in the Cascade Mts., as the basis for painting her abstractions.
She was educated at the University of Oregon Honors College, the Sorbonne, Columbia
University with Meyer Schapiro and at the New York Studio School with Ålex Katz and Esteban Vicente.
Her awards include Yaddo, MacDowell, Millay, the Edward Albee Foundation, Pouch Cove, Newfoundland and Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec. She was awarded grants from the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, Change, Inc. and the Ontario and Canada Art Councils.
Walker's works are included in the collections of JPMorgan, Mint Museum , Rambach Collection, Citibank, Renaissance Technologies, Sidney and Francine Lewis, and the Art Galleries of Ontario, Hamilton and the Robert McLaughlin Museum, all three in Canada.
