About Thea Haubrich
Dutch artist Thea Haubrich started her love affair with encaustic almost 13 years ago in Germany, when one of her fellow French language class students showed her a tiny painting with colours so bright and details so intricate, that she had to have a go at it.
She studied at the Encaustic Academie in Germany to become a teacher of encaustic. In 2004 she moved to British Columbia, Canada and now offers encaustic painting courses all over the South Okanagan and beyond.
She is the founder and owner of TwinLakes Encaustic Art Ltd. (http://www.encaustic.ca), through which sells encaustic supplies and teaches her workshops.
Thea created Encaustic – a hot topic, a Ning social network on encaustic, which has more than 700 active members and features thousands of images, videos and interesting discussions. (http://encausticart.ning.com).
She also is an avid blogger (http://encausticcanada.wordpress.com/) and sends out monthly newsletters with interesting tidbits about encaustic and art in general.
As an Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists she exhibits in their juried shows, where her paintings have won several prizes.
In my work I try to find a consensus between the visual world and my emotions. As emotions constantly change, so does the work. Sometimes small and immediate, other times multi-layered and involved.
Echoing the colour and light of the Okanagan, my paintings are vibrant, full of texture and sometimes hidden messages.
One of my greatest passions is networking and connecting people, which I realize through my Ning social network, blogging and writing monthly newsletters. Through my workshops I have another opportunity to share my love for encaustic and bring people together
