Product description: The painting is entitled Route or short for route formation where aircraft follow another in a sixty degree cone. Illustrated are the Messerschmitt Bf 109 which was a German World War II fighter aircraft that was the backbone of the Luftwaffe's fighter force. The Bf 109 first saw operational service in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War and was still in service at the dawn of the jet age at the end of World War II in 1945. During WWII, the Bf 109 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe fighter force, serving on all fronts and also in the air forces of its European allies. Even though the superior Fw 190 began to replace the Bf 109 in some units as early as the summer of 1941. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger was used by the Luftwaffe during the Second World War in a variety of roles. Like the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Fw 190 was employed as a "workhorse", and proved suitable for a wide variety of roles, including air superiority fighter, strike fighter, ground-attack aircraft, escort fighter, and operated with less success as a night fighter. It served on all the German fronts: Eastern Front, Western Front, North African Campaign and the Defence of the Reich. Both aircraft had a top speed of 426 mph. The Bf 109 had a range of 373 miles while the FW 190 had a range of 519 miles. In the background is Neuschwanstein Castle which is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria , Germany . The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and in honor of Richard Wagner . Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds. The painting is accompanied by the song Calling Invasion Forces by Charlie And His Orchestra.

I've been drawing since childhood. I'm a retired military pilot. When stationed in northern Maine I began to paint. I painted off and on for 30 years...mostly off. After being furloughed from the airline industry I began to paint daily. I've been doing that for three years. I strive for realism. I enjoy painting from old black & white photos, videos, and ancient sculpture. I'm now dedicating my web site at AlbaPaintings.com to painting the greatest generation. read more
