Product description: Number 4 in my series "Famous Flirts" -- .a surrealistic yet whimsical portrait of Catherine Howard (1521-1542), the fifth wife (of 6) of King Henry VIII of England. She was ordered beheaded by Henry, ostensibly for adultery. He was 48, and impotent, and she was about 19 or 20. This work was also inspired by the classic progressive rock album by Rick Wakeman entitled "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" which has been a favorite of mine since it came out in 1973. Acrylics, beaded lace, rhinestones, jewelry, paper collage, ribbon trim on 3/4" stretched canvas, 36 x 24 x 3/4". Canvas is painted on all sides, no frame necessary.

Artist Bio ~ Jayne Somogy—who signs her work “Somogyi,” the ethnically-correct spelling of her Hungarian surname—grew up and attended college in the Midwest of the U.S. as a design/theatre major, then lived most of her life in Los Angeles, retiring in 2008 to Conyers, Georgia after working as an administrative assistant, legal secretary, word processor, proofreader, and graphic artist.
