An American artist, born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Mary Montague Sikes was first influenced
by Impressionist Mary Cassatt as she created mother and child and other paintings in oil.
While studying art at the College of William and Mary, she discovered acrylic paints, loved the
similarity to oil without the messy cleanup, and now uses them for most of her work.
Sikes creates paintings in all sizes and works in several styles from realistic to abstract. Her work
