Product description:The process of fabricating one of our pieces begin with an exotic wood blank that is chosen and cut into two appropriate lengths according to the pen being turned. The next step is drilling a hole through the center lengthwise of each half of the blank using a drill press and gluing a brass tube into each blank. Once the glue is cured the ends of the blanks are squared off using a disc sander and jig. The blanks are then set up on the lathe with specific bushings for the type of pen that is being made. The bushings are guides to show how much wood is taken off for the size pen being created. The blank is then turned down using various turning chisels to about 1/16 of an inch of the bushings. The last 1/16 of an inch is then sanded off using various grits of sand paper and micro mesh pads. Once the sanding is completed a CA finish is applied to create a beautiful, shiny and protective finish. The pen components are then pressed into the finished blanks. This process is what makes the individual pieces unique and admirable.

I live in Stanford, KY with my wife and two dogs, 5 cats and a bird. I take joy in hand-turning pens on my lathe and bringing out the hidden beauty in wood. Itís exciting to see how each pen turns out (pun intended) since every piece of wood is unique. Each pen offered by Pens By Randy is hand turned, finished, and assembled by myself using unique exotic wood or colorful acrylics and high quality pen parts. I believe in quality rather than quantity. I am meticulous in my pen making to...read more
