Product description:2003. This piece was inspired by my feelings concerning judgement: how we often feel entitled to pass judgement on others, without knowing a person's trials or challenges. Drawing on my passion for Renaissance Italian costume, the piece is set in 16th century Italy, complete with a beaded fountain and marble-tiled village square. Around the central heroine and her daughter are people prepared to throw their stones at her: the "wise" old milkmaid, the village drunk, the "educated" rich woman and her son, and the "benevolent" church bishop, who encourages the crowd with religious righteousness. Only the children display horror and disgust at the impending stoning, and doing so, exhibit wisdom beyond their elders. The eight beaded elements can be moved anywhere on the beaded mat: the rich woman and her son are attached to each other. This is an earlier piece that took almost a year to finish: the bead-woven mat took nearly as long as all of the figures combined to complete. I'm offering it here at a significant discount from its original price. Dimensions variable: the bishop is the tallest at 10 1/4". Beaded mat is 19 3/4" square.
