Product description: "Urchin" is an abstract modular paper sculpture and is part of my ocean-life series. As a resident of Boca Raton, Florida, the environment is often the essence of my art. This entire form is built out of 3500 individual archival color inkjet papers, each of which is hand cut and folded into identical pocketed units. Each unit is then glued to another with Ph neutral (Acid Free) glue. The colorfast paper colors and stable bonding afford every sculpture a long, exceptionally strong and permanent life. All of my modular paper sculptures were originally inspired by the plight of the imprisoned Chinese immigrant folk artists of the captured 1993 ship, "The Golden Venture”. I have been influenced by their ancient folk-art technique called Zhe Zhi and now strive to create unique, fine art paper sculptures. The medium of paper is powerful and its possibilities are endless.
